Flood warnings issued for our area

UPDATE 10:35 p.m. Saturday: A post on the Kansas Highway Patrol Troop C Facebook  page noted that “Trooper Walker is reporting slightly West of Woodward Rd on K-4 is closed due to water across roadway.”


UPDATE 10:02 p.m. Saturday: Kansas Highway Patrol Trooper Ben Gardner is tweeting that southbound Interstate 135 near Assaria is open once again.


UPDATE 9:30 p.m.: Southbound Interstate 135 shut down at mile marker 82 (near Assaria) because of flooding according to emergency management.


A flood warning is in effect for our area until Sunday morning.

The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a flood warning for McPherson and Saline counties effective until 8:45 a.m. Sunday.

At 8:39 p.m. CDT, doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing heavy rain which will cause flooding. Between two and three inches of rain has already fallen with more rain expected over the next few hours.

UPDATED: Nighttime storms with hail, wind possible

Additionally, NWS has issued a flood warning for southern Ellsworth County until 8 a.m. Sunday.

At 8:05 p.m. CDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing heavy rain which will cause flooding. Up to three inches of rain have already fallen in a short about of time with more rain expected tonight. This warning replaces previous flood warnings that were in effect for this area.

Turn around, don`t drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles.

Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the dangers of flooding.
