Salvation Army, Walmart collecting school supplies Saturday

The Salvation Army and Walmart are joining forces to provide new school supplies to local children in need during the Stuff the Bus campaign event Saturday.

The local Stuff the Bus event at Walmart, 2900 S. Ninth, will be one of nearly 3,000 similar events across the country. In-store shoppers on Saturday will receive lists of supplies needed, and all they have to do to participate is purchase items on the list and then drop them in the Salvation Army collection bins at the front of the store.

“There are a lot of Salina children heading back to school this year, and many of them will need assistance to start the school year off right,” said Captain Lynn Lopez of the Salvation Army. “By donating school supplies for a child in need, you’re easing the burden parents experience at the start of the school year, and helping set the right tone for these kids as they head back to school. It’d the boost of confidence they need to have a successful year.”

All donations made at the Stuff the Bus event will remain in the local community, the Salvation Army noted.
