KDOT: Mill and overlay work begins on US 81 north of I-70

The Kansas Department of Transportation is scheduled to begin a mill and overlay project today on U.S. Highway 81 beginning at the Interstate 70/U.S. 81 intersection and continuing north to the Saline/Ottawa County line for approximately 5.5 miles.

Construction will take place during daylight hours Monday through Friday with occasional Saturday work and traffic will be reduced to one 15-foot lane. Minor delays not exceeding five minutes should be anticipated.

Schilling Construction Company, Inc. of Manhattan is the prime contractor and have scheduled this project to be completed by Sept. 30, weather permitting, at a cost of $1.3 million.

KDOT urges all motorists to be alert and obey the warning signs when approaching and driving through a highway work zone.  To stay aware of all road construction projects across Kansas go to www.kandrive.org or call 5-1-1.
