E. D. “Dean” Allen

Council Grove – E. D. “Dean” Allen passed away Wednesday afternoon at the Morris County Hospital.  He was 95 years old.

Dean is survived by his wife, Alice of the home;  two children, Gary Allen (Pat) of Council Grove, and Rhonda Swisher (Barry) of Creighton, MO;  four grandchildren,  Allen Swisher (Val), Lone Jack, MO: Matt Swisher (Ashley), Edgerton, KS: Chad Allen, Midlothian, TX: and Tammy Warehime (Keith), McClouth, KS; and nine great-grandchildren.  Kay Bratton of Council Grove and Larry Allen of Lawrence are surviving siblings.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Gladys Allen, and four brothers and a sister.

Dean served 3 years in the US Navy and was stationed aboard the USS New Orleans and was deployed throughout the Pacific in World War II. He was discharged with honors and was very proud of his service to his country.

Dean and Alice were married for 72 years and enjoyed life to the fullest.  He worked for two John Deere dealers as a parts manager.  He also worked for Beech Aircraft in Delavan, KS during his early career.  He enjoyed working with people and helping others throughout his working years.  He was a skilled carpenter and enjoyed doing projects for his home, family, and others in the community. Dean was well known for his sense of humor and entertained many with his stories and jokes.  He often was the first to laugh at them and this was contagious to all of his audience.  There was not a dull moment when spending time with him.  Dean touched many lives in a positive way and will be greatly missed by those who were fortunate to be a part of his life.

Graveside services will be held at 10:00am, Monday, August 26th, at Greenwood Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Morris County Hospital.
