A flash flood watch has been issued for counties in our area.
NWS: Tornado watch for some counties in our area
According to the National Weather Service (NWS), a flash flood watch will be in effect from 6 p.m. Saturday through Sunday morning for the following counties in our area.
- Ellsworth County
- Lincoln County
- Marion County
- McPherson County
- Saline County
Slow moving thunderstorms with intense rainfall rates are expected to develop early this evening in central Kansas, and spread into south central Kansas during the night.
The heavy rain will likely cause street flooding in poor drainage areas. Some minor rises on area rivers and streams is also possible.
Additionally, NWS has issued a flash flood watch from 10 p.m. Saturday through Sunday morning for the following counties in our area.
- Cloud County
- Dickinson County
- Ottawa County
An overnight thunderstorm complex is expected to move through portions of north central into central Kansas. A general 1 to 3 inches of rain will be possible over the watch area with isolated higher amounts possible. This amount of rain in a short period of time could cause flash flooding concerns to increase tonight.
A flash flood watch means that conditions may develop that lead to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation. Remember to turn around, don`t drown.
