City chip sealing work to begin Wednesday

The City of Salina has announced that chip sealing work will begin on Wednesday.

According to a news release from the city, Wednesday through Friday, Circle C Construction of Goddard will perform the City of Salina’s annual chip seal project.  The schedule is as follows, weather permitting:

Chip sealing is a method of pavement surface treatment which prolongs the serviceability of streets by sealing the surface. Combined with joint and crack sealing, this surface treatment program extends the service life of pavement.

Owners and occupants along residential streets will be notified ahead of time that their streets will be closed to traffic while the work is being completed.  Traffic will be flagged around the construction on Magnolia Road.  Motorists are encouraged to avoid the construction altogether and find alternate routes to their destinations while the work is occurring.

The $131,000 project is a major component of the City of Salina’s $4.7 million 2019 maintenance capital improvement program.
