An Oklahoma teen received only minor injuries after the pickup he was driving went off of Interstate 70 (I-70) and down a steep embankment Monday morning.
Saline County Sheriff’s Lieutenant Sean Kochanowski said Tuesday that Alec Sappington, 18, of Guymon, Okla., was eastbound on I-70 when he fell asleep and his 2007 GMC pickup drove through a guardrail, down a steep embankment, and impacted the ground before coming to rest next to railroad tracks. Kochanowski said the accident occurred near mile marker 242, slightly more than 10 miles west of the Ninth Street exit.
Sappington complained of minor facial injuries and was transported to Salina Regional Health Center, Kochanowski said. Sappington was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident, he added.
The pickup had front-end and undercarriage damage, Kochanowski said.
