What do a Chrysler 300, methamphetamine, marijuana, and Airheads candy have in common? They are all a part of a stolen vehicle case solved Thursday by the Salina Police Department.
Sometime between 6 p.m. on Monday and 10:30 p.m. on Wednesday, someone stole a 2006 Chrysler 300 belonging to Joshua Greer, 30, of Salina, from the 700 block of Fairdale Road, Salina Police Captain Paul Forrester said Friday. The car was valued at $2,000, he said.
During that same time, Greer had allowed someone he knew as “T.J.” to stay with him, Forrester said. Greer received several text messages from “T.J.” stating that “T.J.” had the car, and on Wednesday, Greer reported the car stolen, Forrester said.
At approximately 2:50 a.m. Friday, an officer spotted the car at the gas pumps of Kwik Shop, 657 Fairdale, Forrester said. At that point, there was only a passenger in the car, he added. Shortly thereafter, Timothy Collins, Jr., 21, of Salina, exited the Kwik Shop and the passenger in the car identified him as the driver, Forrester said.
According to Forrester, Collins allegedly shoplifted $4 worth of Airheads candy on his way out of the Kwik Shop. Additionally, when the car was searched, a methamphetamine pipe and a marijuana bong were found, Forrester said.
Forrester said that Collins was arrested on suspicion of the following.
- Felony theft
- Possession of methamphetamine
- Possession of drug paraphernalia
- Possession of marijuana
- Misdemeanor theft
