An inquiry Thursday morning about a stolen grocery store cart led Salina Police to the apprehension of a suspect wanted on a felony drug warrant out of Jackson County, Mo.

Salina Police Captain Paul Forrester said Friday that an officer was driving on Iron Avenue near Third Street when he spotted a Save A Lot grocery store cart at a nearby residence. When he stopped to ask the resident about it, he observed Anthony Bowman-Brooks, Jr., 29, of Salina, Forrester said. The officer ran a check on Bowman-Brooks and learned that he had an active felony warrant from Jackson County, Mo., for failure to appear on a drug charge, Forrester said.

In the meantime, Bowman-Brooks left in a vehicle, but the officer was able to catch up to the vehicle near the intersection of Santa Fe Avenue and Republic Avenue and finally was able to stop the vehicle in the 1000 block of South Santa Fe Avenue, Forrester said. At that point, Bowman-Brooks took off running, but was apprehended behind a residence in the 900 block of South Santa Fe Avenue, Forrester said.

According to Forrester, when Bowman-Brooks was apprehended, he had in his possession a metal business card holder that had what appeared to be methamphetamine in it.

Forrester said Bowman-Brooks was arrested on suspicion of the following.

  • Interference with a law enforcement officer
  • Possession of a stimulant
  • Possession of drug paraphernalia
  • The felony warrant out of Jackson County, Mo.
