T-Bird women’s soccer defeats Hesston 9-1

HESSTON, Kan. – With a goal in the seventh minute along with a flurry of four goals in a span of 10 minutes midway through the first half, the Cloud County Community College women’s soccer team would put up eight goals in the first half en route to a 9-1 road victory over Hesston College in Hesston, Kansas on Wednesday.

The T-Birds have now won three straight matches to improve to 3-2 overall and 1-0 in the KJCCC while the Larks fall to 0-2 and 0-1 in conference play.

After trading shots in the opening two minutes, it would be CCCC who would take control and jump out to a 1-0 lead on a goal from Izabella Christina at the 6:30 mark in the first half. Following a foul in the 10th minute by Hesston, Cloud County would find the back of the net again at the 10:32 mark with Franciele Cupertino putting one past goalie Den Morita to put the T-Birds up 2-0. A little over a minute later it would be Christina again with her second goal of the night to put CCCC up 3-0 as goals from Aroa Nieto and Maria dos Anjos Acassia put Cloud County up 5-0 just past the 20-minute mark in the game.

Adding to the barrage would be Cupertino’s second goal of the game coming at the 39:45 mark in the first half before CCCC would tack on goals from Gabriela Vargas (43rd minute) and Christina (45th minute) to put the score at 8-0 at the break. Christina’s third goal would mark the second time in three games the sophomore has recorded a hat trick before halftime.

Working with an eight-goal lead, the T-Birds would extend their lead with a goal from Fatima Leme 2:29 into the second half to go up 9-0 before sitting back and focusing on the defensive side of things. With each team taking seven goals in the first 40 minutes of the second half, the Larks would break through and score what would be their only goal of the game on a shot at the 85:34 mark to prevent a shutout as the T-Birds would go on to take the final three shots of the contest and preserve an eight-goal victory.

CCCC would hold a commanding 49-10 advantage in shots in the contest and allow just seven shots on goal while letting off 36 shots that would wind up on goal. Christina led the T-Birds offensively with three goals on seven shots while Vargas added two assists along with her one goal in the game. Cupertino would wind up as the lone other Cloud County player who had a hand in multiple goals in the game, scoring twice. Thayana Soares would pick up the win between the pipes for CCCC, playing all 90 minutes while turning away five shots and allowing one goal.
