UPDATED: NWS says isolated storms in afternoon, evening

Keep an eye on the weather this afternoon and tonight!

According to the National Weather Service (NWS), isolated strong to marginally severe storms with quarter sized hail and 60 mph winds will be possible across portions of central Kansas late this afternoon and early this evening. If a storm can develop, the best chance for a severe storm will be north of a line from Great Bend to Salina.

Periodic thunderstorms remain in the forecast from early Sunday onward through much of next week. A few strong storms may develop, but the risk for organized severe storms appears low at this time.

Here’s the forecast for the Salina area from NWS:

Today
Mostly sunny, with a high near 92. South southeast wind 6 to 14 mph, with gusts as high as 18 mph.

Tonight
A 40-percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 11 p.m. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 70. South southeast wind 7 to 13 mph.

Sunday
A 30-percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly before 2 p.m. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 86. South wind 6 to 8 mph becoming northeast in the morning.

Sunday Night
A 20-percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 69. East wind 6 to 9 mph, with gusts as high as 18 mph.

Monday
A 20-percent chance of showers and thunderstorms before 8 a.m. Partly sunny, with a high near 89. Breezy, with a south wind 7 to 12 mph increasing to 16 to 21 mph in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 30 mph.

Monday Night
A 30-percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2 a.m. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 72.

Tuesday
A 30-percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly before 2pm. Partly sunny, with a high near 89.

Tuesday Night
A slight chance of showers and thunderstorms before 8 p.m, then a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2 a.m. Partly cloudy, with a low around 72. Chance of precipitation is 20%.

A 20-percent chance of showers and thunderstorms before 2 p.m. Mostly sunny, with a high near 88.
