T-Bird men’s soccer falls to Conquistadors at home 3-1

CONCORDIA, Kan. – Scoring a first-half equalizer after conceding the first goal of the game, the Cloud County Community College men’s soccer team would be unable to hold off visiting Dodge City Community College in a 3-1 home defeat at the Cloud County Soccer Field in Concordia, Kansas on Saturday.

CCCC now 3-3-0 overall and 1-1-0 in the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference while the Conquistadors remain unbeaten on the season while improving to 3-0-1 overall and 1-0-1 in the KJCCC.

DC3 would start the game as the aggressors in the match, holding possession in the attacking third of the field in the opening minutes which would lead to a goal in the 5th on a pass across the box just in front of the goal line that would be sent back across to the back of the net to stun the Cloud County home crowd. Needing to shake off the early goal, Cloud County would make the most of their second shot of the game with a goal from Jelldrik Dallmann to tie the game at 1-1 at the 19-minute mark and make things a game once again.

The rest of the first half would play out without a goal from either team despite a total of 12 shots (eight shots on goal) coming from the two teams. Things would remain tied at 1-1 throughout the opening 20 minutes of the second half as neither team could take control from a possession standpoint. A go-ahead goal from the Conquistdaors would come with just under 23 minutes remaining in the contest, once again forcing the T-Birds to look for an equalizer and play more aggressively. DC3 managed to also draw a foul a few yards outside of the 18-yard box along the far side of the field as Eduardo Gabriel would step up and drill a free kick into the back of the net as Dodge City would take their largest lead of the game at 3-1. CCCC would be unable to find another goal in the final 15 minutes of the contest as the T-Birds dropped their first home match of the season.

Cloud County would manage to outshoot Dodge City by a total of 16-14 and would also earn four corner kicks compared to just three for the Conquistadors. Dallmann’s goal would come on a total of five shots in the contest to lead all players while Djougher Oliveira put up three shots and recorded an assist.
