In a twist of fate, a woman who turned in an alleged found cellphone is now being sought by Salina Police for allegedly stealing the phone in the first place.

At approximately 11:15 a.m. Monday, a woman entered the Salina Police Department lobby to turn in an Apple iPhone 10 that she said she found at the south end of the Salina Regional Health Center (SRHC) parking lot, Salina Police Captain Paul Forrester said Tuesday. The phone was valued at $1,000, he said.

An officer contacted one of the numbers on the phone and found out the phone belonged to a 29-year-old Salina woman who works at SRHC’s Orthopedic Clinic, 520 S. Santa Fe Avenue, Forrester said. She told police that at approximately 10 a.m. Monday, the phone was stolen while she was at work, he added.

Forrester said that the woman who turned in the phone was a patient at the SRHC Orthopedic Clinic that morning and is now being sought by police as the prime suspect in the theft case.
