A Salina man with active warrants ended up in jail Tuesday morning after attempting to flee on a bicycle and on foot.

Salina Police Captain Gary Hanus said Wednesday that an officer was on patrol in the 200 block of East Pacific when he observed Drevin Simmons, 21, riding a bicycle. The officer recognized Simmons as having warrants from Saline County District Court and Salina Municipal Court, Hanus said. When the officer turned the police cruiser around, Simmons began to flee, Hanus added.

After a short chase, Simmons crashed the bicycle and took off on foot, but was quickly apprehended, Hanus said. A search revealed that Simmons had illegal narcotics on his person, Hanus added.

Simmons was arrested on suspicion of the following, Hanus said.

  • Felony obstruction
  • Possession of methamphetamine
  • Possession of drug paraphernalia
  • Possession of marijuana
  • District court warrant for violation of pre-trial bond
  • Municipal court warrant for theft
