Proclamations, river festival fees among city agenda items

Proclamations and amending fees related to the Smoky Hill River Festival are on the Salina City Commission agenda for Monday.

Commissioners are scheduled to begin with a study session at 3:30 p.m. in room 107B of the City-County Building, 300 W. Ash. The topic of the study session is the Lower Smoky Hill Water Supply Access District third quarter board meeting. A time for public comment concerning the study session is scheduled for 3:45 p.m.

The regular commission meeting is scheduled for 4 p.m. in room 107 of the City-County Building. A time for public comment is scheduled near the beginning of the meeting.

The commissioners are scheduled to consider requests for the following two proclamations.

  • Proclaim Sept. 15, 2019, through Oct. 15, 2019, as Hispanic Heritage Month in the City of Salina.
  • Proclaim the week of Sept. 17-23, 2019, as Constitution Week in the City of Salina.

Commissioners also are scheduled to consider amending fees in the Comprehensive Fee Schedule related to the Smoky Hill River Festival admission price. According to information in the commission meeting packet for Monday, commissioners approved the 2020 Comprehensive Fee Schedule on Aug. 12, 2019, however, per commission request, the staff of Salina Arts & Humanities (SAH) was “working on solutions to address a daily admission price and button sharing.” SAH staff presented options at an Aug. 26, 2019, study session, during which commissioners “directed staff to move forward with a $10 daily admission price and the use of wristbands in place of buttons,” the meeting information noted.

Because of that directive, city staff is proposing the following changes to the Comprehensive Fee Schedule that the commission is being asked to consider.

Additionally, commissioners are scheduled to consider acceptance of a public sidewalk easement dedication on the north side of the 100 block of East Ash Street adjacent to The Alley, according to the meeting packet information.
