MANHATTAN, Kan. – Share collective experiences and the latest research for the holistic management of Kansas woodlands and related natural resources at the 25th Annual Fall Forestry Field Day on Oct. 9 at the Geyer Forestry Research Center and Pottawatomie State Fishing Lake No. 2.
The event, from 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m., will begin at the Geyer Forestry Research Center north of Manhattan. Parking is available at 6625 Dyer Rd. The center offers a variety of woodlands where more than 55 years of research has helped Kansans grow the best quality black walnut, bur oak, and other valuable trees.
Participants will hear about management options for invasive plants and pests, see a portable sawmill demonstration, and learn about the resources available to them through the American Tree Farm System.
Working forestry management will be the focus of afternoon sessions at Pottawatomie State Fishing Lake No. 2. Experts will share their insight on wildlife management, using prescribed fire as a tool for managing woodlands, working forestry management and landscape-scale restorations. Field tours of previously managed plots will be a part of these discussions.
