A freeze watch has been issued for much of our area.

A freeze watch means sub-freezing temperatures are possible. These conditions could kill crops and other sensitive vegetation. Take steps now to protect tender plants from the cold. To prevent freezing and possible bursting of outdoor water pipes they should be wrapped, drained, or allowed to drip slowly. Those that have in-ground sprinkler systems should drain them and cover above-
ground pipes to protect them from freezing.

The National Weather Service in Wichita has issued a freeze watch effective from Thursday evening through Friday morning for the following counties in our area.

• Marion County
• McPherson County
• Saline County

Temperatures are expected to be in the upper 20s to mid 30s. Sensitive vegetation may be killed or damaged if not protected or brought indoors.

NWS in Topeka also has issued a freeze watch effective from Thursday evening through Friday morning for the following counties in our area.

• Clay County
• Cloud County
• Dickinson County
• Ottawa County
• Republic County

Temperatures are expected to drop to between 30 and 32 degrees Thursday night. Freezing temperatures could kill outdoor plants, sensitive vegetation and crops.
