ABILENE — The Abilene Fire Department celebrated its 150th anniversary Saturday with a variety of public activities, including the debut of its new engine No. 34, featuring President Dwight D. Eisenhower.

More than 25 fire departments around the state, including those from Salina, McPherson, Clay Center, and Blue Township (Manhattan), joined the Abilene Fire Department for an early afternoon parade.

Following the parade, the Abilene Fire Department honored past firefighters with a bell ceremony and had an open house.
