Salina Police are investigating another attempted forgery case.
According to Salina Police Captain Paul Forrester, people cashed 16 checks purported to have been issued by Kansas Wesleyan University (KWU). The total amount of the checks was $44,000, he said. States where the checks were cashed included Texas, Ohio, Indiana, Pennsylvania, Deleware, Arizona, and Massachusetts, Forrester added.
While the fraudulent checks had a similar look to those actually used by KWU, some of the wording on them was misspelled, he said.
The university’s bank, UMB, refused all payments on the checks, so KWU is not out any money, Forrester said.
KWU is not sure how their banking information was compromised, he said. KWU reported the incident to Salina Police on Tuesday, Forrester noted.
