Roger C. Nelson, age 81, died Thursday, October 24, 2019 at the Republic County Hospital, Belleville, KS. He was born on Feb. 8, 1938 in Concordia, KS to Chrest F. & Lucy (Nelson) Nelson.
Roger graduated from Jamestown High School in 1956. He married his sweetheart since 5th grade, Gretchen L. Kellogg on March 2, 1958 in Jamestown, KS. They celebrated 55 years of marriage before she preceded him on March 4, 2013. Roger was a lifelong area farmer.
He was a member of the Jamestown United Methodist Church; St. Johns Lodge #113 AF & AM; he served as a Cloud County Commissioner for 12 years; served on the Cloud County Hospital Board, USD 333 school board, Rural Water Dist. Board; worked as a surveyor and a substitute mail carrier. He was a member of the former Jamestown Lion’s Club and is well known for hosting Coffee Time on KNCK for many years.
Roger is survived by 3 sons, Marlan Nelson (Shari), Jamestown, Dennis Nelson (Mary), Salina & Dwight Nelson (Sandi Otipoby), Garnett; daughter, Karen Stoneburgh, Lucas; 8 grandchildren, Matthew Nelson (Kaley), Jennifer Gentry (Alex), Travis Stoneburgh (Nicole), Brandie Bruce (Nate), Christopher Nelson, Joshua Nelson, Amanda Nelson, Derrick Nelson; great grandchildren, Kyler Nelson and Traceyanna & Veronica Nelson.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Gretchen; his parents; 3 brothers and 3 sisters.
Funeral services will be 10:30 am, Monday, October 28, 2019 at the Jamestown United Methodist Church with Pastor Randy Whitley officiating. Burial will follow at the Jamestown Cemetery, Jamestown with Masonic services by St. Johns Lodge #113. Visitation will be Sunday, October 27, 2019 at Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home from 1-8 pm with the family greeting friends from 6-7 pm.
