Dennis Lynn “Humpy” Reling

Dennis Lynn “Humpy” Reling was born August 27, 1952 in Beloit Kansas to Vernon and Venda (Jones) Reling. He passed away October 29, 2019 at his home in Cawker City Kansas.

Dennis graduated from Cawker City High School in 1970 and experienced college life in Colorado until the college closed.   He then moved back home to be a working man.

In 1981he married Maura Jean Bryant and to this union, there were two daughters, Kary Leanne and Trisha Dianna. They later divorced after 13 years of marriage.

He worked at the packing plant in Downs Kansas until change of ownership.  Prior to that he worked for Wrench construction where he learned the trade which allowed him to have multiple opportunities for side jobs through his life.

During his younger years he was part of a band playing the drums. He always had a passion for music, Kansas Jayhawks, vehicle restoration and car shows. Some of his brightest and most profound years of His life, were the 13 years of his sobriety. At this time, he became very involved in church, his daughter’s sports and experienced the birth of his first grandchild to the fullest. During his daughters’ school years, he also developed a strong passion for coaching especially their softball teams. Making a huge impact on many of his girls’ friends. He loved to smoke deer meat and cheese in his cold smoker.  His fried chicken was almost as good as his mother’s.

Those passing before him were his parents. He leaves: Daughters Kary (Paul) Foster, Salina, Kansas; and Trisha (Travis) Scott, Alma Nebraska; Significant other, Teresa Cobb, Cawker City; Granddaughters, Paige Robinson, Lexington KY; Kamee Robinson, Salina, Kansas; Riley Scott and Kamryn Scott of Alma, Nebraska; sister, Dianna (Ron) Coad, Salina, Kansas; brothers, Dan Reling, Beloit, Kansas; David (Glenna) Reling of Cawker City Kansas; along with many other cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

Funeral services will be at 10 AM Monday, November 4 at the Cawker City United Methodist Church and casual dress is requested. Per his wishes, the casket will remain closed. Visitation will be from 6-7:30 PM Sunday at the Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Family Expense Fund.
