A Salina man with multiple active warrants was apprehended Wednesday afternoon after he attempted to flee on a bicycle.
Salina Police Captain Paul Forrester said Thursday that a patrol officer who was eastbound on West Crawford Street recognized Casey Zach, 34, who was on a bicycle. The officer followed Zach, eventually pulling up beside him in the 700 block of South Ninth Street and requesting that he stop, Forrester said. Instead, Zach began riding faster and rode through the Smoky Hill Education Service Center facility property at 830 South Ninth Street, Forrester said.
According to Forrester, the officer turned onto Frankin Street and observed Zach running northbound. The officer gave chase and caught up with Zach in the backyard of 808 South Ninth Street, Forrester said. As the officer was apprehending Zach, the two fell through a white vinyl fence, he added.
Forrester said Zach was arrested on suspicion of obstruction and on the following warrants.
- A Salina Municipal Court warrant for trespassing
- A Saline County District Court warrant for probation violation
- A Cloud County District Court warrant for probation violation
