The Salina Post has heard concern of there being mountain lions in Kansas and more concerning, around Salina.

Taking this information into consideration we decided to investigate and see how probable it would be that there are mountain lions locally. In our search we found a Salina man who has seen a mountain lion by Marquette, KS.

Jim Reynolds, a Salina resident told the Post about an experience he had on November 28th, 2012. Reynolds was on a country road when he witnessed a female mountain lion with her kitten. They both passed in front of him a few yards up the road. Reynolds stated, “Her shoulder was at my knee and her body was at least 3 feet long, her tail another 3 feet or so.” She also had a cub with her, so she was not passing through the area, she has a den.

Reynolds also took some photos of her paw prints. He put his hand next to them as a way to gauge the size.

Furthermore, Nebraska Game and Parks is having a mountain lion hunting season in 2014. So, to say they are in Nebraska but have not come down to Kansas lacks logic.
