The Southeast of Saline basketball teams were in action Saturday night in Herington, each of them trying to win tournament championships.
The Lady Trojans found themselves in a rematch from the championship game last year versus Northern Heights. The Lady Cats beat SES last year, but the win belonged to SES on this night. It was a game that featured good defense and points were at a premium. At halftime the score was tied at 20 and Northern Heights led by 2 at the end of the 3rd quarter. Trailing by 2 points midway through the final quarter, SES would get back-to-back 3-pointers from Calli Calihan and Kylee Poague. Poague would then turn a steal into a layup to complete an 8-0 run that would give the Lady Trojans a 6 point lead. Southeast of Saline would go on and win the game 42-37.
Erica Montgomery had 11 points, Linzy Kaniper had 10, Kylee Poague would score all 7 of her points in the final quarter. The SES girls are now 4-0 and will host Beloit on Tuesday.
The guys championship also featured a rematch from last year with Southeast playing Centre. The Trojans used a 17-6 first quarter to start quick and never look back. Easton Montgomery would lead SES with 18 points and Ben Murray chipped in 12 on the way to a 56-43 win. The Trojans are 4-0 and will be at home for the first time on Tuesday to host Beloit.
