The Saline County Commission voted 2-1 Tuesday to exempt the Saline County Sheriff’s Office allowing concealed firearms from being brought into the Sheriff’s Office.

Saline County Commission Chairman Randy Duncan voted against the four-year exemption from a state law that allows concealed carry permit holders to bring their guns into county buildings. Several buildings of Saline County have removed the restriction on carrying concealed firearms.

Sheriff Glen Kochanowski said during the Commission meeting that if the county would spend about $100,000 to limit those who might being carrying a concealed weapon to a lobby area, and not through the rest of the administrative offices, he would not have sought the exemption.

Two of three members of the public who spoke on the issue also supported the exemption.

The Saline County Commission also approved an Interlocal agreement between Salina and Saline County on dispatch and jail services, and a contract with Cloud County for housing of some Saline County Inmates.
