A winter storm on the first day of winter dumped more than a foot of snow on portions of Kansas, while coating parts of southern and southeastern Kansas with nearly a quarter inch of ice.
Nearly a foot of snow was reported in Salina, with greater amounts between Dodge City and Great Bend. Law enforcement reporting numerous vehicles being stuck or they slid off of the roadway.
Several churches in the Salina area called off services for Sunday morning.
The forecast is for more light snow late Sunday night into early Monday, with little if any additional accumulation expected.
