Salina PD ShieldA traffic stop for no seatbelt usage early Thursday morning leads to the arrest of four people on drug charges and the recovery of a computer and printer being used to make bogus checks.

Salina Police Captain Mike Sweeney said about 2:15a.m. Officers pulled a car over in the 700 block of S. Broadway because the occupants were not wearing seatbelts.

Sweeney said the driver 43-year old Brandon Jordan of Topeka was found to be driving with a suspended license and and during a search of him , officers found methamphetamine.

A search of the other occupants found they either had methamphetamine or methamphetamine residue on them. Also recovered were several computer generated checks and two false Kansas temporary drivers licenses.

Officers obtained a search warrant of their motel room at the Traveler’s Lodge where the four had been staying, and officers found a laptop computer and printer that was being used to generate the phony checks from various banks.

Jordan and the other three occupants in the car, 25-year-old Amber Helton, 32-year-old Dustin Lund both of Topeka, and 31-year-old Jerry Smith Jr. of Abilene were booked into the Saline County Jail on charges of possession of methamphetamine, no tax stamp and possession of drug paraphernalia.
