Three injured in two icy Highway 24 crashes

KHPTwo people were injured in a three-vehicle crash on U24, west of Glasco at 7:15 Thursday morning.

The Kansas Highway Patrol reports that a 2003 Grand Prix driven by 30 year old K’Lynn Matyas of Beloit was east bound on U24 when she lost control, spun around crossing the centerline, hit a 2004 Pontiac Sunfire driven by 67 year old Douglas L. Berndt of Glasco and a 2000 Chevy Silverado driven by 34 year old Heather L. Berndt of Salina. Matyas was transported to Salina Regional Health Center. Douglas Berndt was transported to Mitchell County Hospital and later to Via Christi in Wichita. Heather L. Berndt was not injured.  The KHP reported she was the only driver not wearing a seat belt.

Another  Kansas man was injured at 7:20 a.m. after he lost control of the truck he was driving on U24 in Cloud County, 5 miles from Miltonvale.

The Kansas Highway Patrol reported that a 2012 International truck driven by 52 year old David J. Hughes of Harveyville, Kansas, was east on U24 when he lost control from road and weather conditions. The truck crossed the centerline and veered off the road to the left, overturned and came to rest on the passenger side. Hughes was transported to Clay Center Medical Center. The KHP said he was not wearing a seat belt.
