Salina Police promotes three to Captain

Salina PD ShieldChief Brad L. Nelson is pleased to announce Salina Police Department promotions for the following individuals. These promotions are part of a departmental reorganization and all three will be assigned as division commanders on March 10, 2014.

Jim Norton has served the Salina Police Department since 1990 as a patrol officer and as an investigator with the Drug/Technical Investigations Unit. He was promoted to Lieutenant in 2000, serving as Patrol Bureau Watch Commander. In 2007 he transferred to Commander of the Drug/ Technical Investigations Unit. Effective March 10, 2014, Jim Norton will be promoted to Captain and assume duties as the Commander of Special Enforcement.

Sean Morton has served the Salina Police Department since 1991 as a patrol officer and an investigator with the Criminal Investigation Bureau and the Drug/Technical Investigations Unit. He was promoted to Lieutenant in 1999 where he was assigned as Patrol Bureau Watch Commander. Lt. Morton recently served as the department’s Training and Community Relations Commander. He is a graduate of Cloud County Community College with an Associate of Arts degree. Effective March 10, 2014, Sean Morton will be promoted to Captain and assume duties as Commander of the Support Division where he will assume duties as Commander of Records, Emergency Communications, Training/ Community Relations and Property and Evidence.

Chris Trocheck has served the Salina Police Department since 1990 as a patrol officer and an investigator with the Criminal Investigation Bureau. Lt. Trocheck has served as Commander of the Special Response Team since 1992. He was promoted to Lieutenant in 1997 where he was assigned as a Patrol Bureau Watch Commander. He is a graduate of Kansas Wesleyan University with an Associate of Arts degree in Criminal Justice. Effective March 10, 2014, Chris Trocheck will be promoted to Captain and assume duties as Commander of Criminal Investigations.

As part of the re-organization there will be future promotions to the rank of sergeant. Additionally, in the near future the vacant deputy chief’s position will be filled.
