Special Situation Response Team makes arrest in Hays

Hays–In a media release, the Hays Police Department reported responding to the 2100 block of Lincoln Draw Monday morning.

Officers were following up on a reported carjacking that had occurred in Wichita. Officers were able to recover the stolen vehicle and arrest 31 year old Crystal R. McKinney (from Wichita) for Felony Obstruction, Obstruction, and Driving While Revoked.

Officers set up a perimeter and tried to call out 32 year old Michael E. Novak (also from Wichita) with no success. Novak was wanted in connection with the carjacking and a $100,000 bond felony arrest warrant out of Sedgwick County. The Special Situation Response Team (SSRT) was called to the scene to assist with the barricaded subject. At 9:37 AM the SSRT made entry into the house and found Novak hiding in an upstairs bedroom. Novak was arrested for the Felony Warrant, and Felony Obstruction.

Both McKinney and Novak are being held in the Ellis County Jail.
