Kansas Governor Sam Brownback today announced the appointment of Mark P. Sievers to the Kansas Corporation Commission.

“Mark’s career began in public service as a police officer in Colorado Springs in 1975, and after receiving a law degree and a master’s degree in Economics, he went on to distinguish himself at the highest levels of the public and private sectors across the country. Mark will bring a wealth of training, experience and knowledge to the commission,” Governor Brownback said.

The Kansas Corporation Commission (KCC) is a three-member board, with members serving staggered four year terms.  The KCC ensures that natural gas, electricity, telephone and transportation vendors provide safe, adequate and reliable services at reasonable rates. The Commission also ensures oil and gas producers protect correlative rights and environmental resources.

Pending confirmation by the Kansas Senate, Sievers will join KCC Commissioner Ward Lloyd and KCC Chairman Thomas Wright.

“Commissioner Loyd and I are pleased with the Governor’s selection and look forward to collaborating with Mr. Sievers on industry issues,” Chairman Wright said.

As one of the first state regulatory bodies in the nation,  the Kansas Legislature established the commission as the Railroad Commission in 1883 and then transition it into the present regulatory body in 1933 .
