Volunteer Day part of COA’s Older Americans Month celebration

Saline County Commission on agingVolunteers and volunteer opportunities for seniors will be the focus of the Salina County Commission on Aging’s (COA) Volunteer Day Wednesday May 21st.

The event, a part of the COA’s 40th anniversary and Older Americans Month celebrations, is scheduled for 11 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. in the dining room of the Salina Senior Center, 245 N. Ninth.

Representatives from the Volunteer Connection/RSVP will be on hand to talk about volunteer opportunities for seniors and will have a display, including prize drawings. Additionally, two of the RSVP groups that meet in the Salina Senior Center – the RSVP Mixed Chorus and RSVP Sewers – will be featured during the event. The RSVP Mixed Chorus is scheduled to sing at noon in the dining room of the Salina Senior Center. All current volunteers also will be recognized.

The COA’s Volunteer Day is open to the public at no charge, however, all are also invited to eat lunch at the Salina Senior Center during that time. The Salina Senior Center kitchen is scheduled to serve baked steak, baked potato, green beans, pears, and wheat bread. Salad bar and chili also are scheduled to be available. The cost of a meal is $4 per person and all ages are welcome.
