Abilene Rebels sweep Herington in a double-header Friday night in Abilene by winning both games in walk-off fashion with Game Two going into extra innings. In the opener, Abilene battled back from a 5-1 deficit and eventually took a 7-6 lead. But Herington got a run in the top half of the seventh after a fielding error allowed a Herington base runner to be safe at second and he eventually scored to tie up the game. Abilene’s Jordan McCord reached safely on an error with one out, then Tate Berry singled, Chad Beetch walked, and Carson Sherbert singled to drive in McCord for the 8-7 win.

In the night cap, Abilene got off to an early lead with four runs in the second inning but Herington would tie the game in their half of the third inning with four runs of their own. The Rebels got the lead back in the fourth with a run but Herington tied it in the seventh by stealing home. The game went into the eighth inning and Abilene held Herington scoreless. In the bottom of the inning, Andy Tope led off with a single with Colby Korf coming in to pinch run. After Colton Mills walked, Herington brought in their ace pitcher who struck out the next two batters. With a ball on the next batter, there was a wild pitch and Korf scored on the play for the winning run. Abilene, now 8-1, will play a double-header at Hillsboro next Wednesday beginning at 6pm.
