Candidates Fourm set for Tuesday evening

salina chamber 3The Salina Area Chamber of Commerce and League of Women Voters will sponsor a Candidates Forum for contested races for Saline County Commission, State Legislative Candidates from the 69th District, and U.S. 1st Congressional District Candidates on Tuesday, October 7, 6-9pm in Sams Chapel in the Hall of Pioneers on the campus of Kansas Wesleyan University.

Three sessions will be held. The first session will run from 6-6:45pm and will feature Saline County Commission candidates, Stephanie Cool and Monte Shadwick. The second session will run from 7-7:45pm and feature State Legislative candidates from the 69th District, incumbent
J. R. Claeys and his opponent Gary Swartzendruber; and the third will run from 8-8:45pm and feature U.S. 1st Congressional District candidates, incumbent Tim Huelskamp and his opponent James Sherow.

The forum will be moderated by Dale Heuszel, Chairman of the Board of the Chamber, and Abner Perney, President of the League of Women Voters.

The format of the forum will consist of one minute opening remarks by each candidate, questions from a media panel, questions from the audience, and one minute closing remarks by each candidate.

Short summaries of each of the Saline County ballot issues will be presented at all three sessions. Materials intended for distribution regarding ballot issues are not permitted.

Candidate Profiles on all of the candidates are available at the Saline County Clerk’s office, the Chamber office, 120 W. Ash, and on the Chamber and League websites. They will also be available at the forum.

The forum is free and open to the public.
