Salina Police have a known suspect in a case where a check was stolen from a mailbox, and the suspect tried to cash it at a business last week.

Captain Jim Norton said the check was taken by the suspect to Speedy Check at 1220 W. Crawford, where he tried to cash the altered check for $4,400. Speedy Cash found out the check was intended to pay a credit card bill for for the woman who said the check was stolen from her mailbox.

The suspect left the store while staff was getting information about the check.

Charges of attempted theft by deception, and forgery could be filed when the suspect is located.
