Willie the Wildcat to Attend K-State Salina Open House

SALINA — Willie the Wildcat, a dancing humanoid, a vertical axis windmill, free basketball and dance clinics, and plenty of aircraft are just a few things that will make K-State Salina’s Open House a destination for the whole family, Saturday, April 16, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m.

Willie the Wildcat will make an appearance on campus to meet K-State fans, use a student-built cannon for target practice, eat Purple Pride ice cream, and learn about investing in the stock market.

He might also have time to fly an airplane simulator, dance with a robot, pretend to be a reporter for the campus news magazine, or join the K-State Gamers Board for a level or two in a video game.

Other activities that Willie and other campus visitors will enjoy include a bounce house, a Wildcat flyover at noon and an intelligent collision avoidance robot that can navigate a maze without human assistance.

Advisors will be on hand to talk about the three new degree programs that will be available on the K-State Salina campus in the fall: a bachelor’s degree in social work, the personal financial planning option in the family studies and human services bachelor’s degree program, and a professional master of technology.

K-State Salina’s club basketball team will offer a free clinic for 10-to-18-year-olds, 10 a.m. to noon in the Student Life Center. The clinic will cover fundamentals of the game, shooting form, and dribbling skills. The team is also sponsoring a Hot Shot tournament for 10-to-18-year-olds, 1-3 p.m. in the Student Life Center.

The Spirit Cats dance team will teach 5-to-11-year-olds a routine during a free clinic, 10 a.m. to noon in the Student Life Center.

The Wildcat Breakfast Fly-In from 8 to 11 a.m. is a chance to meet K-State pilots and mechanics of the past, present and future while enjoying pancakes and sausage.
