Mark Douglas Comfort was born August 6, 1962, and raised in Minneapolis, Kansas. He passed away at home wrapped in love by his family on Monday, November 24, 2014. He leaves behind his wife Louise, sons Kane and Lucas, his father Dave, siblings Mike, Mitch, Jeff, Julie, and their families, as well as countless other family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his mother Sheila.
Over the last months Doug and his family have been flooded with visits, letters, emails and phone calls from people all over the country testifying to the profound impact Doug has had on their lives. The common refrains in these responses were of his strong sense of integrity, his sharp intelligence, and his gentle kindness. These characteristics, combined with his fantastic sense of humor, made him a wonderful person to share time with. He was a lifelong musician and songwriter, a member of a number of bands, and touched many with his love of music. He was a great advocate of healthy, purposeful, and active living and inspired many by his physical example. Doug had an uncommonly inquisitive mind and a fierce intellectual curiosity that he challenged with subjects as diverse as business, philosophy, history, engineering, and the study of religion, especially his Catholic faith. He was truly a Renaissance man.
But fundamentally, meaningful relationships were the most important to Doug, whether it was with a family member, friend, colleague, or simply a stranger who happened across his path. None were more important to him than those with his wife and sons. It is in all of these sincere relationships that his legacy will be cherished.
A Celebration of Life Mass will be held Friday, November 28, 2014 at 6:00 pm and will be held at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, Salina, Kansas.
Memorial Fund Information – The School Marathon Foundation
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The School Marathon Foundation, an organization dedicated to promoting lifelong health and reducing obesity in our children. Doug recognized the importance of this mission not only to improve our children’s health, but also to reduce the risk of adult onset diseases, including breast cancer, heart disease, and diabetes. The Foundation was established by his wife Louise Comfort, and Dana Kossow.
