SALINA, Kan. (AP) – Police in Salina say someone may have stolen a 24-year-old taxpayer’s identity – and her tax refund.
Salina Police Captain Mike Sweeney told KSAL radio the woman reported that she tried to file her taxes this week, only to learn that someone had already submitted the information using her name.
Sweeney says it appears the thief also used the information to snag the woman’s tax refund of $2,500. If caught, the thief could face charges including computer crimes and felony theft.
