Update: Fire destroys Salina home

Update 12/1/14: The Salina P.D. released additional information about the house fire that heavily damaged a home on Valley View rd. When police arrived Michael Sampson was in his driveway trying to put the fire out with a garden hose. A police officer told him to step away from the fire. The officer then took Sampson to an ambulance where he was  checked over by paramedics.

While Sampson was in the back of the ambulance, another medic entered the ambulance. Sampson asked about the condition of his house to the medic that just entered, the medic told him it was badly damaged. Sampson then struck the back window with his left fist two times. Medics tried to calm him down, Sampson then opened the door, jumped out of the ambulance and started to run towards the house. An officer caught Sampson in a driveway where he was then tackled and put in handcuffs. The officer sustained damage to a ribbon on his uniform that had a value of $20. Due to this scuffle with the Salina P.D., he was charged with failure to comply and damage to property.

The Salina Post was at the scene of a house fire at 8am this morning on Valley View rd, just east of the old Elks Country Club. There is no information as to how the fire started or if there were any injuries.

While on the scene, you could hear a fireman yelling, “get out of the garage, the roof is about to collapse.”

The entire block was covered in smoke as the firemen tried to extinguish the flames.

Check back to the Salina Post for information as it becomes available.
