Bombers Set for 2015 Home Opener

11045538_10152917767534597_1181476758_oSalina, KS- For the second consecutive year, the Salina Bombers opened a new season on the road. For the second year in a row, the Bombers are off to a 1-0 start.

Salina was able to outlast the Wichita Force on the road last week by a score of 64-61. The win was the first for the Bombers in the new Champions Indoor Football league. Salina is now set for their regular season home opener inside the Salina Bicentennial Center tonight at 7:05 pm as they host the Texas Revolution.

The Revolution was founded in 2000 as the Arkansas Twisters. The franchise moved to Allen, Texas and became the Allen Wranglers. The Wranglers competed in the AF2 and from 2010 to 2014 in the IFL. The team garnered national publicity in 2012 when they offered Terrell Owens a contract as a player/owner. Owens had a productive career on the field, but missed several public appearance appointments including a date at a children’s hospital. The team released Owens which in effect, revoked his ownership stake in the team.

Over the last two seasons in the IFL, the Wranglers have compiled an 8-20 record. The move to the CIF and the addition of NFL talent to the franchise has the fans of the Dallas/Ft. Worth franchise excited about 2015.

Tim Brown, former Los Angeles Raider and Class of 2015 Pro Football Hall of Famer is the Revolution’s General Manager. Former Dallas Cowboy Wendell Davis, a native of Wichita who attended the University of Oklahoma, is the Head Coach. Davis has not only NFL experience, but several years in the AFL as a player. Wendell Davis is a former coach of the San Antonio Talons and the Wichita Wild.

Larry Centers is the Revolution running backs Coach. Centers was drafted by the Phoenix Cardinals and had a 14 year NFL career. He is one of the most versatile fullbacks to play the game and earned 3 Pro Bowl appearances and a Super Bowl ring in 2004 with the New England Patriots.

Jenn Welter made news last year when she played running back for the Revolution, making her the first woman to play a non-kicking position in a men’s professional league. On February 12, 2015, the Texas Revolution introduced Welter as their new linebackers and special teams coach. She is the first woman to coach in a men’s professional football league.

The Revolution played a preseason game versus the North Texas Crunch on February 27th. The Revolution won the exhibition contest, 61-19.

A parking lot party at the Bicentennial Center, hosted by Long McArthur Ford, will get the festivities started at 2:00 pm on Saturday with player appearances and a clothing drive for Goodwill.

The game is set for a 7:05 pm kickoff at the Salina Bicentennial Center with pregame starting at 6:30 pm.

The game will be broadcast on KSKG 99.9 FM.
