KWU Women’s Tennis drops match to Fort Hays State

It was lining up to be another match in which the Kansas Wesleyan Coyotes would have to rally from an early deficit to pull out the win on Tuesday afternoon at Oakdale Park against Fort Hays State University. Things didn’t fall in place for the Coyotes as the Tigers beat Wesleyan 6-3.

Wesleyan won just one of the three doubles matches when the duo of Rachael Renneisen and Macy McMakin beat Hays’ Melissa Skovira and Briana Watkins 8-4. In the other two doubles matches, Jeni Wolters and Sheri Haynes were defeated by Laura Johnson and Brittney Shea 8-6 and Eleda Adams and Janel Prather lost to Zoie Young and Megan Quinley 8-1.

The Coyotes were only able to win two singles matches out of the six played against the NCAA Division II Tigers. Renneisen defeated Skovira 6-3, 6-3 and McMakin, the reigning KCAC Player of the Week, beat Johnson 6-1, 6-0. Hays was able to pick up wins in the other four matches. Young beat Prather 6-4, 3-6, 10-5; Briana Watkins beat Wolters 6-2, 6-4; Quinley, a Salina native playing for the Tigers, beat Haynes 7-5, 5-7, 10-6; and Amy Guilliams beat Adams 6-0, 6-0.

The Coyotes will return to action on Thursday at Friends.
