Kansas Highway Patrol Headquarters Evacuated After Receiving Suspicious Letter

A suspicious letter prompted the Kansas Highway Patrol headquarters in Topeka to evacuate on Wednesday.

The decision to evacuate came after something fell out of a certified letter that was opened at the KHP building.

Topeka Fire Department Hazardous Material Team was sent in to examine the letter but initial tests found nothing hazardous.

One person was sent to the hospital as a precaution and later released. Workers were allowed back in the building later in the day.
