Update on US-56/I-135 construction project

US 56 McPherson DetourBeginning Monday, May 11, 2015, construction will enter the 3rd Phase. As a part of Phase 3 the North bound exit Ramp (Exit 60) on I-135 for HWY-56/Kansas Avenue will be closed for reconstruction as well as making improvements at the US-56 Interchange.

Northbound traffic wanting to exit onto US-56 will instead exit onto K-61 south then K-153 north to rejoin US-56 /Kansas Avenue. No other ramps will be affected in this phase. On the east end of the project 17th Avenue will be closed to thru traffic in both directions from US-56 to Avenue A. Local traffic and residents will have access. 17th Avenue north of US-56 will not be affected. Engineers on the project estimate that work will continue and the ramp will remain closed until approximately July 15, 2015.

Traffic may continue to have a width restriction of 12 ft. and a speed limit of 45 mph dropping to 20 mph when needed. Construction will periodically be controlled by pilot car and flag men as is necessary. Pilot car use will be a day time only operation. All drivers need to be prepared to stop when approaching the work zone.

This is a multi-phased project that will include placing traffic signals at the top of the northbound ramp on I-135. The project should be completed on or about Oct 1, 2015 weather permitting. Additional news update will follow as warranted.
APAC-KANSAS Inc. Shears Division of Hutchinson, KS is the prime contractor.
