Allie Marie Saum went into the Lord’s arms Thursday, May 7, 2015, following a senseless act of violence. Allie, 17, is the beloved daughter of Danny Saum and Tina Ellis. Born Sept. 13, 1997, in Salina, Allie was a junior at Salina South High School and worked part time at Jasperson Chiropractic Clinic.
Allie’s surviving immediate family includes her parents; big brother, Jacob Saum; her paternal grandparents, Dale and Joyce Saum; her maternal grandparents, Vickie and Louis Kibler; and niece, Scotlyn Allen; in addition to numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Allie was preceded in death by her paternal grandfather, Charles E. Rice Sr.; and her great-grandmother, Rose Ann Little, who passed away only days before Allie.
Allie was known for her genuine kindness and happiness. She cared deeply for those around her and put others before herself without a second thought. Allie gave generously of her time to her family and friends and was always there with her beautiful smile and laugh.
She is a member of First Baptist Church in Salina and made the decision to mark her strong personal faith in Jesus Christ by being baptized April 13, 2014. Allie will always be dearly loved and greatly missed.
Funeral services to celebrate Allie’s life will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, May 12, at First Baptist Church, 843 Lewis Ave., Salina. There will be a private family burial.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Allie Saum Memorial Trust, in care of Sunflower Bank, at any of the three Salina locations or mailed to the bank at 2070 South Ohio, P.O. Box 800, Salina 67402. Ryan Mortuary, Salina, is handling arrangements.

June Eileen (O’Keefe) Gans, 92, of Salina, passed away Monday, May 4, 2015. June was born Aug. 16, 1922, in Sunfield (Du Quoin), Ill., to Thomas and Violet (Bailey) O’Keefe. She married Dr. Frederick A. Gans on Sept. 3, 1945.
June has been a resident of Salina since 1951, moving from St. Louis, with her husband and three children. June graduated from St. Louis University School of Nursing in 1944. She continued to work in nursing over the years at St. John’s and Asbury Hospitals while raising 10 children. June was also a registered nurse for Irwin Army Hospital, Fort Riley, until her retirement.
In her later years, June enjoyed all her friends and being a resident of Arbor Court, previously known as Drury Place.
June was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Dr. Frederick Gans; brother, Moe O’Keefe; sister, Mary Jane Axley; and grandson, Ryan David Gans.
She is survived by six daughters, Tina Gross (husband Jim, deceased), of Tucson, Ariz.; Mary Boomer (husband Gary), of Kansas City, Mo.; Martha Brown (husband Steven), of Salina; Margie Pergola, of Scottsdale, Ariz.; Sara Gans, of Wichita, and Patty Wood (husband Jason), of Salina; four sons, Steve Gans (wife Judy), of Florida, David Gans, of St. Louis, Fred Gans II (wife Susan), of Dallas, and John Gans (wife Amy), of McKinney, Texas; 29 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.
Rosary will be held at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, May 14, at the Brown family home, 203 Greenway, Salina, followed by visitation/wake for family and friends starting at 6 Thursday, at the Brown family home.
The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Friday, May 15, at Sacred Heart Cathedral, Salina, with Father Frank Coady officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Abilene, immediately following the funeral.

BEVERLY — Douglas H. Gomel, 72, of Beverly, turned out to the heavenly pasture Friday, May 8, 2015. He was born Nov. 23, 1942, in Wakefield to Herbert and Lila (Tiers) Gomel. He grew up in the Longford area and attended KSU before serving in the U.S. Air Force from 1964 to 1967.
Doug worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company for 24 years, where he made many lasting friendships. He belonged to Salina Masonic Lodge 60, Scottish Rite Valley of Salina, Isis Shrine, Harmony Chapter 2, O.E.S. and Church of the Cross U.M. Church, Salina.
Doug had a passion for people, farming and his family. He married Mary Jane Hiserote in 1969. They have three daughters, Margaret Clark (Beau), Margie McGreevy (Jason) and Marie Gomel. Doug has four grandchildren who are his pride and joy, Kaitlyn Clark, Kameron Clark, Lydia Gomel and Ruby Gomel; and two sisters, Evelyn McNorton (Squirt), of Topeka, and Marietta Lucas (Jack), of Chapman.
Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 14, at Church of the Cross U.M. Church, with a luncheon for friends and family to follow at the church. Burial will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Kansas Veterans Cemetery, 5181 Wildcat Creek Road, Manhattan.
