Topeka – Kansas Governor Sam Brownback has declared a state of local emergency for Saline County as a result of a five-car train derailment in the City of Salina on Saturday, April 23rd.

The order exempts those motor carriers and persons operating commercial motor vehicles from certain state laws and regulations while they participate in the rerailing operation.

The five empty cars derailed Saturday afternoon while a Union Pacific train was adding cars. No one was hurt.

This is the seventh executive order issued by Governor Brownback.
