vet_ffffffkas50709Leon P. Kashkin, 85, of Salina, passed away Thursday, July 9, 2015. He was born July 8, 1930, to Peter and Anna (Kulezyeka) Kashkin in Detroit, Mich.

Leon loved playing the accordion and listening to polka music. In high school he was the leader of three polka bands. He began his military career in 1947 and served in both the United States Naval Corp. and the United States Air Force and worked as a dental technician. His civilian jobs included working at Sears and Asbury Hospital and then retiring from Morrison Lumber Company. When he retired he became a volunteer for the VFW and RSVP (Retired Senior Volunteer Program) donating 16,558 hours over 22 years of his life. Leon was a member of First Christian Church, VFW Post 1432, serving as post commander, quartermaster, chaplain and various other positions, TREA and the American Legion.

Left to mourn his passing are his children, Michael (Laurie) Kashkin, Vernon Kashkin, Tania (Dennis) Brooks, Katrina Von Fange, Diane Turner and Mark (Gail) Turner, all of Salina, Carla (Chris) Emerson, of Hays, and Elaine Onori, of Henderson, Nev.; 16 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wives, Esther Irene (Bradford) Kashkin and Elsie Myra (Turner) Kashkin; his parents; and sister, Elaine Roose.

Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, July 15, with family receiving friends from 6-8 p.m. at Ryan Mortuary.

Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 16, at First Christian Church with Pastor Greg Rea officiating. Burial will follow at Gypsum Hill Cemetery, Salina.

Memorials may be made to VFW Post 1432, Salvation Army and First Christian Church, in care of Ryan Mortuary, 137 N. Eighth St., Salina 67401.

gal50710Kory D. Gall, 22, of Salina, passed away Friday, July 10, 2015. He was born Jan. 13, 1993 in Colby, the son of Keri (Shank) Piros and Erik Gall. Kory enjoyed being with family and friends, especially his siblings. In his free time Kory loved listening to music and drawing.

He will be dearly missed by all who knew him. He was preceded in death by grandfather, George Shank; great-grand-mothers, Berniece Shank and Berniece Seidl; and great aunt, Ruth Lighter.

Survivors include his parents; four siblings, Kassie, Kortney, Kaden, and Tristan; step-father, Michael Piros; step-brothers, Parker and Austin; step-sister, Mara; grandparents, Larry and Barb Sloan, Gene and Kathy Brown and Milton Gall; and great-grandfather, Charles Seidl.

Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Ryan Mortuary, with family greeting visitors from 6 to 8 p.m.. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 14, 2015 at Ryan Mortuary, 137 N. Eighth, Salina, with burial following in the Mt. Hope Cemetery, Enterprise. Following the cemetery service there will be a reception at the Belmont Boulevard Christian Church, 2508 Belmont Boulevard, Salina.

Memorials are to the Rescue Mission, Salina.
