Salina Crime Report – July 13th

crime reportSalina resident Justin Hayes reports the theft of three months of electrical services from his home. Salina Police Captain Mike Sweeney says that between January 1 and July 6, a former neighbor of Hayes connected to a breaker box in a shed on Hayes’ property in the 700 block of N. 4th and ran power to a shed on the neighboring property. Total loss was listed at $750.

Police take a report from a Salina man that says jewelry was taken from his home. Mark Olson reported that several assorted pieces of jewelry, including a 1972 Salina South High School class ring and numerous other items, were taken from his home at 101 S. Hilldale between June 3rd and June 30th. The items were taken from a jewelry box in a bedroom of the resident. Total loss was estimated at $5,100.

Police are investigating the theft of a trailer. Michael Giercks reported the theft of the trailer, which occurred on July 11th between 1:00 a.m. and 4:15 a.m. The trailer, which was stolen from in front of Giercks’ residence at 2250 Corsaut Court, is a black, two wheel, 5′ by 8′ carry-on mesh trailer. The trailer is valued at $800.

Salina resident Kevin Closs tells police that someone removed a computer from his home. The computer, a black ASUS laptop, was taken between 9:40 p.m. July 11th and 8:45 a.m. July 12th, from 851 Custer. Total value of the computer has been estimated at $808.

Salina Police are investigating after someone burglarized a camper and stole the camper owner’s vehicle. Jack Boster says that someone broke into the camper while it was parked in the driveway of his home at 1203 N. 9th, between 7:00 a.m. June 18th and 3:00 p.m. June 25th. Two amplifiers valued at $350 and a speaker valued at $50 were removed from the camper. Also taken from the camper were keys to a vehicle belonging to Boster. The vehicle, a tan in color, 1996 Ford Ranger pickup valued at $3,500, was stolen. Damage to the camper has been estimated at $75.

Two individuals are taken into custody after a shoplifting incident at a Salina store. Police say that 38-year-old Derek Henson of Wichita and 40-year-old Angela Hall of Mulvane, were arrested on July 10th in the parking lot of Sam’s Club, 2919 Market Place, shortly after Henson had taken two drills from Tractor Supply Company, 3120 Riffel Drive. The drills, two DeWalt power drills valued at $960, were recovered. Henson and Hall were both charged with felony theft with two or more previous convictions.

A counterfeit bill is discovered in a bank deposit. Police say that officials at Sunflower Bank, 176 N. Santa Fe, found a bogus $20 bill in a deposit made by Crown Distributors, 606 N.Ohio. The bill was passed at the business sometime between 8:00 a.m. July 9th and 12:20 a.m. July 10th.

Salina resident Shayne Haney reports that someone burglarized his vehicle. Haney reports that a DUI ignition interlock device valued at $725 and a Bose stereo valued at $100, were taken from his vehicle, a 1990 Ford F-150, sometime between 5:00 p.m. July 9th and 8:00 a.m. July 10th, while it was parked in front of a residence at 522 N. 8th. Police say there were no signs of forced entry to the vehicle.

Salina Police say a panhandler grabbed several items from a Salina truck stop. The incident occurred at 9:02 p.m. July 11th. Witnesses say the man entered the Subway restaurant at 2230 N. 9th, and was initially looking through a trash receptacle, before asking customers for money and food. He then went to the 24/7 Store, which is adjoined to the Subway restaurant, and removed several items from the store and left through the Subway entrance. He was detained a short time later.

A Salina woman reports that her car was damaged while parked at the Central Mall. The windshield and side windows of a 2013 Nissan Altima owned by Wilma Gerleman, were shattered July 10th, sometime between 2:40 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. The vehicle was parked near Dillards at the time of the incident. Total damage to the vehicle has been estimated at $500.

Police say that someone attempted to steal money from a vacuum at a Salina car wash. Between 8:00 p.m. July 1st and 8:00 a.m. July 2nd, someone attempted to pry open an industrial vacuum machine located behind the car wash at Casey’s General Store, 1100 E. Iron. The thief attempted to gain entry to the coin safe located inside the machine, but was not successful. Damage to the vacuum was too extensive to repair and the machine was replaced. Total loss was placed at $4000.
