Introducing Tami Lauffer, your BANK VI Hero of the Week!
Tami was nominated for her involvement with assisting the disabled. According to those close to her, she goes out of her way every day to assist the disabled while teaching them life skills to be productive citizens. As part of assisting those with disabilities, Tami is actively involved with Choices Network, Inc.
Choices Network’s mission is to promote and enhance the quality of life, social integration and support individuals with developmental disabilities of all ages. Their vision is for people with developmental disabilities to have the opportunity to be active members of their neighborhood, to work, to belong and to contribute to their communities.
Tami involvement with Choices Network consists of having a host home for the disabled. She also teaches individuals with disabilities how to perform normal daily functions such as cooking and cleaning. Tami also takes part in a weekly activity sponsored by Choices called “Lunch and Bowl”, which takes place every Wednesday afternoon at Salina’s All-Star Lanes. “Lunch and Bowl” is an event in which those with disabilities are given the opportunity to bowl and be active. A meal is also provided for a small fee.
Tami also spends at least three days a week as a community volunteer. She says that she volunteers for several community activities, such as assisting at local laundromats.
Tami has also recently been in training to run in the Oklahoma City Memorial Marathon next April. As a part of that, Tami will be collecting donations and running in memory of Allie Saum, a Salina teenager that tragically passed away in May. With the assistance of Salinan Christina Humphrey, Tami has set up a GoFundMe page for donations to Allie’s marathon scholarship fund that can be found by clicking here.
Those close to her say that Tami is a completely selfless person who would give you her shirt if you needed. She never slows down or backs down and gives everything her all, whether it’s tending to her home or making sure someone has the means to live. She stated, “I’m one of those people that if you call me in the middle of the night, I’m ready to go.”
