HUTCHINSON – A tip to law enforcement helped authorities in Reno County find and arrest a wanted suspect.

Police say just after 10 a.m. on Sunday officers were dispatched to the Dillon’s at 725 E. 4th Street in reference to a wanted suspect.

A citizen was reporting that Sonny J. Bray was at that location and in a passenger vehicle in the parking lot.

Officers responded and located the vehicle traveling in the parking lot.

Bray fled the scene when officers pulled behind the vehicle that he was driving. While Bray was fleeing from officers he allegedly threw a sawed off shotgun out the window.

A short pursuit ensued and traveled towards the south part of the city. While Bray was fleeing from the officers he allegedly struck a parked tractor-trailer in the 500 Block of East 3rd, and fled the scene.

The vehicle traveled southbound on Plum Street and at the intersection of East Ave B and South Plum Street; the vehicle struck a curb along with a stop sign.

This collision disabled the vehicle and Bray fled on foot, but was captured by officers.

The Reno County Sheriff’s Office and the Kansas Highway Patrol assisted with this investigation.

Bray was taken to jail on various charges including criminal possession of a firearm by a felon, criminal use of a weapon, a shotgun with an 18-inch barrel, felony interference with law enforcement, felony flee and elude, driving while suspended, two counts of leaving the scene of an accident, two counts of failing to give information at an unattended property accident, failing to appear in another case, a warrant for aggravated battery, failing to appear on a municipal court case and a parole violation.

He should make a court appearance on the new charges Monday morning.
