
SALINA -Unemployment in Saline County increased by .5 percent in June to 4.5% according to information from the Kansas Department of Labor.
The jobless rate was up in many area counties, although it dropped from 3.7 to 3.5 percent in Ellsworth County.
McPherson County saw an increase from 3.3 to 3.5 percent. Ottawa and Lincoln County reported 3.8% in May and saw a jump to 4.5 and 4.3 percent respectively.
Dickinson County’s jobless rate increased from 5.4 to 6.1 percent.
The state’s June seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 4.5 percent, up from 4.4 percent in May and unchanged from June 2014.
Seasonally adjusted figures show Kansas gained 12,300 private sector jobs since last year, or 1.1 percent.
“June was an excellent month for the private sector with a gain of 4,300 seasonally adjusted jobs. The last time the state added more than 4,000 jobs in June was in 1994,” said Lana Gordon, Secretary of Labor.
